Doesn't it amaze you that when we take one small step in obedience to God that He makes up the difference with His amazing grace and an ordinary moment becomes a supernatural intervention of glory?
For many of us, the mere thought of being a secret agent on assignment for the Kingdom of God seemed absurd --at first. The "who me's" the "what if's" the "I can'ts" and even the "I'm not sure I want to's" took center stage in our thoughts. But, as we made the acknowledgement in our hearts that we were willing (albeit with fear and trembling) our God has created unique opportunities for us that intersect with the lives of those who need His loving touch. And we have even begun to say "why not me?," and "what's next?"
Some of our Secret Agents have been a friendly ear for the hurting. Others have reached out their hands and prayed for the sick (and many have recovered!). Others have issued invitations to join them for book clubs, retreats and church services. And others have even led people in prayers for salvation. And the Kingdom of God is full of rejoicing because we are in small and large ways fulfilling the call to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Keep it up. Read the new comments below and add your own to the growing list of God's interruptions in our lives. Interrupt me more, Lord!
Kathy's secret assignment:
ReplyDeleteThe other day I saw 2 people standing at the highway exit with a sign saying they were travelling and hungry. The wind was blowing and it was raining and my heart went out to them. Did I stop? No. After about 4-5 miles the Holy Spirit got the better of me and I turned around and went back...hoping that someone else had helped them so I wouldn't have to. Sure enough they were still there. So I rolled down the window and said I'd meet them at the Montana City Merchantile and feed them dinner. We got a lot of stares as I walked in with these 2 very scraggly young men. I proceeded to do my best to carry on a conversation (not my strong suit) while they ate dinner. After a while a lady came over and whispered in my ear and said, "I know you're doing a good thing" and handed me $5. When I paid for the meal the owner took my money and also said, "I know you're doing a good thing" and charged me half of what the meal cost. I did not get an opening to share the gospel with these 2 guys but I do pray that they will become the men that God created them to be.
Steve P's assignment went like this:
ReplyDeleteAt church last weekend I engaged a very shy man in conversation and as the Lord led me, I was able to lead him in the sinner's prayer for salvation! I was elated...but then, at the church picnic, someone asked me to go talk to a gentleman who was by himself. After about 30 minutes, he too, was praying to receive Jesus Christ as his Savior. This is amazing as I have not been used like this in the past...and now 2 in one day!
Julie Moore says: A couple of weeks ago Pastor Jeff gave us a test designed to uncover our hidden bias's. I was feeling pretty good about it. It seemed like I didn't have any bias at all. The other day God pointed out my bias. It was so close to home, I didn't even see it. I have lived across the street from a woman who is in a wheel chair. In eight years I have scarcely had 3 brief conversations with her. I wave to her. I pray for her, but I never ever take the time to just check in and talk and be a good neighbor. Yesterday I finally did that. I went over and said "hello" and we talked for a half hour! Just when you think you're doing good, God can make you better! He is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis past week my husband and I went camping. We met a woman who was camping alone, looking for a new place to live, had no family close by. I would meet her "accidentally" every day somewhere in the campground and would talk to her each time, finding out a little more about her. I did not get to talk to her about Jesus but am believing that He was revealed to her in some way through me. I definately am praying for her, my secret assignment!
ReplyDeleteRichard & Anna Yetter share their experience as Secret Agents:
ReplyDeleteWe bought 4 tickets for the rodeo for Military Appreciation Night for my parents and us. We didn't know my sister was coming with mom and dad for the changing of my name and that my nephew was going to be living with us. So we needed 2 more tickets. We learned from Andy, Richard's son, that we could get a couple of free military tickets. We checked it out and was able to have tickets for everyone to go. The afternoon of the rodeo my mother decided she would not be able to go for medical reasons and my sister was going to stay home with her. That left us with 2 tickets and no one to use them. I started making calls to friends in church. Seems everyone was busy that night. With only a couple of hours before the start of the rodeo, I still had not found anyone to take them. (We were not asking for any money for them) During these phone calls I kept hearing, "Give them to your neighbor". That surely couldn't be from the Holy Spirit. After all, we are to help those whoare in church. Right? Finally, Richard came up to me and suggested we give them to our neighbor. So he went over to see if they wanted the tickets. The accepted the tickets. You see, the husband had been "away" for a number of years and had only recently come home. They are putting the marriage of 21 years back together and God knew they needed some time to have fun. We plan on having them over for a bbq soon. We are hoping to lead them to Christ in the near future using the tickets to show them how much God loves them. NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!
